Is your child planning on extracting their wisdom teeth anytime soon? If so, good for them! This can help them have the top-notch oral health they deserve. Before they go in for their appointment, it’s important to do all you can to prepare for the surgery. This will help you and your child have a successful appointment and recovery period. To help you do so, our dentist, Dr. Thomas Pierce, has some recommendations.

No. 1: Make sure your teen follows any diet instructions our dental team gave them. This should have included how long to abstain from food and drinks prior to surgery. Generally, it’s recommended to avoid eating and drinking at least 6 hours prior to the appointment. This is important because the anesthetic might make your teen nauseous, so it’s better if they have an empty stomach.

No. 2: Make sure your teen has a ride to our office and then back home from our office. This is recommended because it won’t be safe for your teen to drive home alone after the appointment. The anesthesia will take some time to wear off, which can make their mind a little foggy.

No. 3: Make sure your teen wears comfortable clothes to the appointment and they leave any contact lenses or jewelry at home.
